Two months ago, I launched my first iPad app in the App Store: Remembary, the Connected Diary for Your iPad. It has been a new and fun experience having my own consumer product and trying to figure out how to promote and sell it.
Some people turn 40 and buy a stupid car - I just turned 40 and I'm learning about AdWords and Search Engine Optimization and marketing and all that. It's less expensive (so far) and more interesting.
I'm making a big promotional push around Christmas (many people get iPads under the tree) and New Year's (many people starting new diaries). Version 1.2 just came out this week with many new features, including several really great-looking themes.
Check out the Remembary site for more details, but here are some recent highlights:
I'm going to present at PodCamp Halifax on January 23rd, 2011, on "Why You Should Have an App in the App Store, Even Though You Probably Won't Make Any Money". It'll be about my experiences in making and promoting Remembary and why it has been valuable experience while not being exactly lucrative (yet).
